Aston Villa Frauen Torwart

Liverpool Women Continue Winning Streak with Victory over Aston Villa

Emma Koivisto Grabs Brace in 2-0 Triumph

Aston Villa Struggle to Maintain Momentum After Arsenal Loss

Emma Koivisto was the star of the show as Liverpool Women secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Aston Villa Women in the Women's Super League on Sunday afternoon.

The Finnish forward netted twice in the second half to help her side to their second successive win following their impressive 3-1 victory over Arsenal last weekend. Aston Villa, meanwhile, remain without a win in their last two matches after their 3-1 loss to Arsenal last weekend.

Liverpool started the brighter of the two sides and should have taken the lead in the opening minutes when Leanne Kiernan found herself one-on-one with the Aston Villa goalkeeper, Hannah Hampton. However, Hampton made a smart stop to deny the unmarked Liverpool striker.

Liverpool continued to press for an opener and were finally rewarded for their efforts in the 58th minute when Koivisto found the back of the net. The Finnish forward was on hand to tap home Emily van Egmond's cross from close range after the Australian midfielder had danced through the Aston Villa defence.

Koivisto doubled her tally and sealed the victory for Liverpool in the 80th minute when she headed home a cross from Katie Stengel. The Finnish forward rose highest in the Aston Villa box to meet Stengel's cross and guided a bullet header past Hampton into the top corner.

The victory sees Liverpool move up to second in the Women's Super League table, just two points behind Arsenal. Aston Villa, meanwhile, remain in 10th place with just eight points from their opening seven matches.
